Robin: Boldness of the Open Heart

The Robins are ever-present here. This year a pair nesting in the branches I have piled to season for kindling, have drawn me into their world.  I watch them flying back and forth to their nest from my van window. At first the male saw me as a threat, boldly sounding the boundaries of his territory to me.
Then he discovered Pippa’s left over food, darting in on dry days, when the door is left open, to help himself. And as he became more familiar with me waits outside chirping, to remind me of his presence, when it’s shut even daring to enter while I’m there.
When he perches with his mate just outside their nest, I imagine him telling her about this food source.

Bright and quick they fly so close by me I can hear and feel their wing muscles manoeuvring their flight, as they brush past.

Another has found that when the door to the shepherds hut is open he can hide from the robin chasing him - whose territory he’s dived into - his beak full with grubs, trembling slightly from the exertion until the danger passes.

Their sharp eyes can distinguish insect life in the soil that our human eye can’t. In my gardening days there was one Robin who became familiar enough with me to sit on my shoulder, as I was working the soil, before flying down to grab his feast.

They are bold, adaptable hunters - like little lions of the bird kingdom.

Their brilliant bright song fills the heart with it’s sweetness.

Folklore believes them to be messengers of souls that have passed over, though this doesn’t fully resonate with me and so I asked these Robins that are weaving their way into my spaces for their message:

“My Heart leads the way,

I wear it on my chest for all to see -

Red feathered and full.

I am the Bravehearted.

Territorial,

Fierce lover

Proud and free.

Bright eyed

I see the unseen prize.

With alert patience,

trusting in my speed and agility,

I secure what is meant for me.

My heart song ripples into yours

Stretching your heart strings so your chest

expands like mine.

To reminding you of the fearlessness, trust and courage of the open-hearted.”

May you find the bold, bright beauty of openheartedness, a blessing from the Robin, in your life today.

with Much Love,
from my Heart to yours,

Tania Aurora White Crow.
