Intention Setting
Setting an intention can bring focus and a guiding light. It can also help keep track of your progress, to find delight in the unexpected, fruitful, twists and turns of your journey.
Zen master Thich Nhat Hahn often referred to his teachings as being like the North Star - they are a guide. We may use the North Star to guide us North, but we never expect to reach the North Star! This sits deeply in my heart serving as a reminder, when I’m being too hard on myself, to just relax and enjoy what is unfolding before me.
And that is the beauty of intention setting, I find it is refined for me. I get to experience the conscious engagement with the unfolding of Divine purpose in my life, I simply wouldn’t have the same awareness without intention setting. Even if it’s just to learn to laugh at myself for how serious I’m being! Though often it’s to simply look back with wonder and think - ‘well who’d have thought!’
Your intention may change and that is fine, fluidity is essential. You keep it private and so there is no need to censor it in any way.
Everything we do in life has an intention, no matter how conscious we are of it. Starting an Intention setting practice brings more awareness to our everyday, every moment intentions of all our activities and interactions.
To feel into your deepest desires and dreams for your life right now. Even if they may seem impossible or unreachable - good, that is exactly right. Dream the almost unimaginable into being. Stretch to the furthest reaches of your imagination, and then some more, to retrieve something of your souls desire.
Spend some time formulating it. Play with the words, be creative and have fun - remember to be in your heart and find what brings you joy.
When you are ready write your intention a piece of card or paper. This way you can keep it close to you. You may want to use lots of colour, decorate it, make it like a mini vision board … have fun and play with it … maybe it will expand into a bigger one. There may be times when you’ll want to review it, change the words, remove something, add something …
- allow yourself the freedom for this honing process. Tracking it can bring further insights.
Working with intention brings focus and a guiding light. When you refer back to your intention, you will know when this journey is complete and feel nourished by the unexpected, fruitful, twists and turns of your journey.
with much Love,
from my Heart to yours
