How to do a Medicine Walk - tune into the messages around you
Guidance on Medicine Walks and Earth Dreaming. Whether walking through a city or nature, the practice encourages deep presence, awareness, and intuitive exploration. By noticing signs, symbols, and synchronicities you can uncover insights that serve both personal growth and the collective. With reflection and gratitude, this walk becomes a powerful tool for connection, discovery, and deeper understanding.
Medicine walks and Earth Dreaming
Set an intention for your walk, before you leave
You may be requesting an insight as to what next or have something more specific.
For the community blog maybe simply ask what would best serve the group and the collective
Be aware that if you’re travelling to start your walk you may get messages through before you get there.
Bring your journal or a smaller notebook with you to make any notes.
Maybe take your phone to use the camera, though personally I find this is a distraction and usually leave it at home.
Your walk can be through any city or landscape.
Try not having a set walk, allow yourself to be pulled in unexpected directions and follow those knowings. What happens unexpectedly?
If using a regular, familiar walk - as I often do - this can highlight changes in the vision-scape that are significant messages.
You can do a Medicine Walk as often as you like.
For this community blog you could even do it every day for the preceding week.
Have fun and play with it.
Note what grabs or flirts with your attention?
Billboards
Number plates
A scrap of paper
A discarded wrapper
An animal or a bird
A shop name
A tree, flowers etc.
What sort of people do you pass or see?
How are they grouped?
Do they resemble anyone you know?
Do you talk at all?
Maybe some-thing they’re wearing grabs your attention!
Take note of the air
What’s the weather like?
The atmosphere?
Does it change at all?
Maybe sunlight suddenly breaks through and highlights something.
Be mindful, present and aware, allowing the information to flow through and to you.
If a messenger (like a cat for example) appears ask - maybe it’s a change of direction indicator.
Be sensible and don’t go beyond your physical capabilities.
Remember you are in a liminal space. Take care of yourself.
Maybe you sit on a bench, in a cafe … if so take the opportunity to write.
Writing while you’re still in this space can add a dimensional quality to your work.
Write, meditate or otherwise reflect on what happened and find the story and the message - allow it to unfold. You may find deeper levels of significance and understanding emerge.
As always though follow what suits you best and your own intuition.
When you feel you have finished the walk, thank everything that contributed and for the messages. You may want to formally close the space by clapping either once or 3 times and/or stating ‘This space is now closed’, after offering gratitude.
With much Love
from my Heart to yours,
