Men’s Well-being: A Visionary Grassroots movement with  Dr. Jason Schroeder

In Men’s Well-being: A Visionary Grassroots movement, part 2 of my conversation with Dr. Jason Schroeder, he talks frankly about his dark night of the soul 15 years ago, when he contemplated suicide.

This led to him founding The Scottish Mens Shed Association and more recently receiving an honorary doctorate from Robert Gordons University for his service.

“Ethos and service to leave the planet and it’s culture better then I inherited it”

Here among some very tender and vulnerable topics, specifically those affecting Men’s Health and Wellbeing in Scotland, we talk about what it takes to sustain a long-term vision on our spiritual path. Within this conversation we cover:

Dark Night of the Soul.

  • Asking for support as a sovereign being, requesting other outcomes.

  • Sustaining a Vision and maintaining the passion.

  • Changing a cultural dynamic and creating something that doesn’t exist.

  • Where are our Elders?

  • The Power of One.

  • Empowering people in their uniqueness.

  • Gender differences: How biological ‘wiring’, biochemical and psychological differences creates different needs.

  • How meeting mens needs creates better communities.

  • For Mens Wellbeing the need for space to do mens things, mens way.

  • Mens Mental Health Statistics.

  • Thresholds.

  • Saving lifes.

  • Community engagement.

NB: If any of the issues we discuss have affected you - we speak from a perspective of having tools that support us in recognising and processing our issues as they arise. We do not share any methodology or ideas on how to do this. If you feel you need additional support to work through any of the issues we talk about, please find an experienced, informed therapist in whichever modality or discipline you feel suits you best.
