Trees - the Wisdom Holders
Visiting ancient sites offers a profound connection to the past. In this post, I share my experience at Clava Cairns, an ancient burial site in the Scottish Highlands.
When I arrived at Clava Cairns in the early hours of the morning recently, I went for a wander around the stones and Cairns. I find spending time in magical places restorative. The first thing that grabbed my attention was the fallen Beech tree, so I went straight over to him.
These ancient food trees, like the Sweet Chestnut, were planted by the visionary Alexander the Great. The Beech, Sweet Chestnut and Oak came to provide much of our staple UK food resource - in a time before the potato - making up a substantial percentage of the species in the Great Forests. These trees have been coming to my attention in recent days, giving me much to reflect on - though right now, I wish to talk about the days experience…
You may see from the photo that there is still much power in the tree, yet one side has rotted - causing it to be vulnerable in the relentless storms we had in the North of Scotland this Winter.
It surprises me that more didn’t fall. My guess, is that the more modern road causes a pooling of water where that tree is, rather than the older stone wall - it’s not allowing enough natural flow causing the water logging that leads to the rot.
Not unlike Alexander the Great, the balance of great strength and leadership may fall if issues causing an inner decay aren’t addressed and brought into harmony. Yet here, this tree was alone in his fall and in doing so it protects the others.
And so, the trees invited me to see the cairns and stones from their perspective.
As I walked through the trees and dropped into my connection with them I was started to be shown a larger circle of energy - one that the trees held.
I was told that the trees had been planted as guardians and that through their connection with the stones, they held the memory of Clava and it’s Sacred purpose.
It was quite magical - the photo below is the one I took when I first realised what the trees were showing me.
with much Love
